Chi Nghia Vietnamese restaurant is conveniently located in Ho Chi Minh City, District 1 (Saigon), less than two
blocks from the Ben Thanh Market. Chi Nghia specializes in traditional, northern style Vietnamese dishes,
which are light and healthy, and naturally delicious. Our quality and presentation are first rate, and yet our
prices are very reasonable, with entrees ranging from about $2.00 to $5.00. We make a delicious stirred-fried
beef, from some of the tenderest, tastiest beef in Vietnam. Another customer favorite is chicken with
passion fruit sauce, and you shouldn't miss our savory crab and aspargus soup. Our extensive menu
contains over 100 dishes, so there's something for everyone ... from the most conservative to the adventurous.
Who is Chi Nghia?
Ms. Hoang thi Bich Ngoc (Chi Nghia to her friends) began her career as a professional chef shortly after
graduating from Hanoi's College of Cooking in 1979. She honed her craft in the restaurant kitchens of
Vietnam's finest hotels, including many years as the head chef of the Softel Metropole's Asian Kitchen in
Hanoi. More recently she became head chef at Sofitel Plaza, here in Ho Chi Minh City, but she has always had
the dream of having a small restaurant of her own, where she could prepare traditional dishes with her own
innovations, and serve them at an affordable price. In February 2006, she made this dream a reality with Chi
Nghia Restaurant on Nam Thu Khoan Street in Saigon, District One. Despite her gourmet credentials, Chi
Nghia's preference have always been for the simple, delicious dishes characteristic of traditional Vietnamese
cuisine ... albeit with a special flair all her own.
Dedication to Craft
Chi Nghia is obsessed with quality. She arrives at work early and leaves late, supervising each step of the
food preparation process. In a world obsessed with speed, Chi Nghia is a refreshing anachronism. She gives
her personal attention to each dish that is prepared in her kitchen to ensure that it meets her high standards
for both taste and presentation. She's equally obsessed with hygiene and cleanliness. You would be
hard-pressed to find a cleaner kitchen than hers in all of Southeast Asia. (Ask to
come back and take a look.) Chi Nghia believes strongly that delicious food comes from a judicious mixture of
fresh, high-quality ingredients. She uses very little oil and fat in her cooking, and never adds MSG.
